5 Fun Halloween Costumes Inspired by The Black Hammock

Halloween is right around the corner! Here at The Black Hammock, we are inspired by our beautiful environment and the animals who call it “home” every day—so much so, that we think they make some seriously great Halloween costumes. Read on for a few fun ways to sport your Black Hammock pride this Halloween.

Lazy Gator

There is no shortage of ways to pay homage to the de-facto mascot of The Black Hammock, our beautiful alligators. One of our favorite spins on the gator costume is named after our beloved watering hole, The Lazy Gator Bar. Don an alligator costume (or take the DIY route with a green baseball hat and white cardstock teeth glued to the brim, perfect for last-minute plans), then throw on a casual Hawaiian floral button-up, sweats and even a favorite pair of shades for your ultimate laidback look.

Baby and Morgan

Our two resident blue and gold macaws, Baby and Morgan, are a beautiful couple here at The Black Hammock! You can embrace your inner macaw with a fun couples’ costume. Each of you can wear a golden-yellow t-shirt underneath a bright blue jacket, which you can choose to adorn with feathers for colorful flair when you spread your wings.

Key Lime Pie

One of our favorite desserts here at The Black Hammock Restaurant—and in all of the Sunshine State—is, of course, classic Key Lime Pie. If you want to show off your love for this deliciously refreshing dessert, but don’t have too much time to throw together a costume, here’s a fun idea: Dress in a bright green ensemble, throw on a white “whipped cream” cap, and then affix prop keys to your outfit for a punny look.

Whistling Duck

Here at The Black Hammock, one of the beautiful birds you have a chance at spotting by Bird Island is the black-bellied whistling duck—known for its long legs and high-pitched call that sounds a lot like a shrill whistle. It doesn’t get much easier than this silly costume: Simply wear a brown jacket to emulate the duck’s plumage and wear a whistle around your neck, using it ever so often to clue friends into your costume.

Great Blue Heron and Little Blue Heron

A pair of blue herons—one great, one little—is a fun costume idea for a parent and child! The grown-up great heron should sport a sleek black crown feather and yellow beak, while both of you can sport a light blue jacket adorned in fake feathers to complete the look.

We hope that these ideas inspire fun, festive Halloween costumes for the whole family! We can’t wait to see your one-of-a-kind creations, so be sure to share them with us on social media.
